KC Web Geeks participated in the KC Coders 4 Charities event held this past weekend. What an experience! We were not only able to connect with other programmers and help out a good cause, but we also potentially helped thousands of people indirectly. An estimated 4000 man hours were donated during the event.

The charity that we were assigned to help out with was Kids and Cars.org.

KidsAndCars.org is a national nonprofit child safety organization dedicated to preventing injuries and death to children in or around motor vehicles. KidsAndCars.org has been pioneering a national prevention movement since 1996 by promoting the highest level of awareness among parents, caregivers, legislators and the public at-large about the dangers inherent to children in or around motor vehicles. KidsAndCars.org works to prevent these sudden tragic events through data collection, education and public awareness, policy change, regulations and survivor advocacy.

We had such a great time that we look forward to next years event.

A year in review

Well looking back over the past year it has been a very interesting journey. Lots of positives many learning experiences on many levels. Lots of new projects both internal and for clients. We have a lot to tell over the next few weeks. Many of the thing we would like to talk about are still being kept secret for various reasons. However one of the things we can tell you is that our site and blog are going to get a face lift. There has been some acquisitions and creations of new web properties. There will be more to come however we are not ready to let the cat out of the hat just yet. Stick around and we will have more of our adventures soon enough untill then have a great week.

Someone has graciously added our site to csspig.com. Csspig.com is a collection of great web sites that utilize the new web standard Cascading Style Sheets or CSS.

Without going into to much detail the KC Web Geeks have been very busy. Lots of new projects and partnerships to start off the new month. Last month the saying when it rains it pours definitely flooded us with new opportunities. I wish that I could go into more detail but in this line of work sometimes secrets can make friends. Until next time I hope everyone is having a good last few weeks of summer before play turns back into work.

BarCampKC are you going? KC Web Geeks will be!

Kc Web Geeks is going to be headed to the BarCampKc. What is a BarCamp you ask? Well it actually does not have anything to do with a Bar. According to Wikipedia a BarCamp is

An international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants — often focusing on early-stage web applications, and related open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats.

BarCampKC is May 9th – 10th 2008. It is being hosted at the Ad Astra offices in Overland Park
